Physical Characteristics | perennial herbaceous plant. It dies every winter and it shoots from the rhizome again in spring. The oval leaves have deep parallel nerves, a short stem and they are clustered in a basal rosette which tends to be flattened on the ground. Between the beginning of summer and late autumn floral stems rise from the centre of the basal rosette. They have no leaves and they may be up to 30 centimeters high. The stems bear flowers clustered in cylindrical spikes and each of the flowers will become a capsule containing from 10 to 20 seeds. When the seeds are ripe, the capsule opens into two and the seeds fall on the ground. |
Habitat | it prefers humid and rich soils, but it develops also on poor and dry grounds. |
