Geographic Range it is native to Portugal and Spain but now lives in all Mediterranean area, South Africa, Australia, West Europe, as far as Scotland.
Physical Characteristics tree high up to 25 meters, short trunk, the foliage is spherical but in the course of time it takes the form of an umbrella. The bark is thick, brown and with vertical cracks. The needles are coupled and long from 10 to 20 centimeters. Male flowers are red, they grow at the top of the new shoots. Female flowers are yellow colored and positioned at the base of the shoots. The cones are up to 15 centimeters long, they ripen after 36 months. When they are mature they open themselves and drop the seeds, that are 2 centimeters long and winged. Seeds are disseminated by animals and birds.
Habitat Mediterranean coastal areas.
