Geographic Range it is found in Europe, north-western Africa, Lesser Asia, Persia, Caucasian, Palestine.
Physical Characteristics the male has a black cap; the sides of the head and the lower part of the body are grey. The female has a brown-reddish cap, the upper part of the body is brown-olive. The young look like the female. The beak and the paws are dark.
Habitat woods, parks, gardens, hedges.
Flight it performs short flights, following a waving trajectory.
Food habits larvae, insects, fruit.
Migration the individuals coming from central Europe and heading towards East and North up to Scandinavia are migratory and spend winter in Sub-Saharan Africa and in western Europe (Mediterranean). The individuals living in western and southern areas are resident or partially migratory.
Nidification the nest is made up of dry grass and twigs; it is built by the female among bushes. They usually lay from 3 to 5 the eggs, from the end of April, and the incubation, whose responsibility belongs to both parents, lasts about 13 days. The young leave the nest at the age of 10-11 days.
