Geographic Range it is native to North America; it is found in all Mediterranean regions and in temperate and tropical areas.
Physical Characteristics erect annual plant; it may be up to 80 centimeters high. The upper part of the stem is branched and bears a lot of head flowers. Flowers are red or pink, tubular and there may be from 70 to 200 of them for each head. The fruit is a dry and dehiscent achene and it is dispersed by the wind thanks to a pappus. Alternate, cauline, lanceolate leaves, from 5-10 centimeters long, with a short petiole. Basal leaves are clustered in a rosette and are oval. It blooms from July to October.
Habitat abandoned fields, roadsides, sand dunes, grasslands.
