Geographic Range Africa, Europe, Asia.
Physical Characteristics limicolous bird, its plumage is black and white. The beak is long, thin and black. The back is black, like the wings. Both flying and resting the long red legs are distinctive. Male is slightly taller than the female.
Habitat shallow marshes, expecially in coastal lagoons, estuaries, in both soft and salt water.
Flight quick and direct. It flaps its wings quickly. While flying its legs are stretched out, like the neck.
Food habits it feeds on invertebrates.
Migration most of them migrates at the beginning of September. The others delay the migration till the beginning of October.
Nidification it nests in colonies on the ground.
Reproduction it lays 4 eggs at the end of May, some clutches can be anticipated at the first half of May.
