Geographic Range Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea, along the coast of Portugal to the Gulf of Guinea. Quoted mainly in the islands than on the continent.
Physical Characteristics oval and lateral compressed body. Caudal fin is very forked, and the lobes are well separated and pointed. The body of the adult is dark brown or black, while the young is blue.
Behaviour it forms small shoals in midwater above or near rocky reefs or above seagrass meadows. The male during summertime bounds a territory and inside it prepares a deposition site. The female is called there by means of jumps and sounds. After the spawning the female leave the nest and the male looks after the eggs.
Habitat it is a marine species, lives on the rocky bottom at a depth range of 2 - 40 meters.
Food habits it feeds on small planktonic or benthic animals.
